This article presents the results of a study to investigate the epidemiological profile of birth in Chapecó/SC, from July 2011 to June 2013, based on the Sistema de Informações sobre Nascidos Vivos – Sinasc (Live Birth Information System – Sinasc, na sigla em português). It is a descriptive research, retrospective, of quantitative approach. From 5,918 live births, 9.2% were born weighing less than 2,500 g; 9.4% were premature children; 15.7% were babies born to adolescent mothers; and 20% of women made seven or less prenatal care visits. A stratification of a group of pregnant women according to maternal dwelling environment in urban, rural and indigenous rural areas was undertaken and it was found that there were differences on epidemiological profile of live births depending on each place. Therefore, the variable maternal dwelling environment should be taken into account to evaluate and to create strategies and actions which aims the quality of care for women during the period of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and for their newborn. We emphasize that studies focusing on the indigenous rural population should be developed.Downloads
