The importance of pharmochemical segment in the economic and industrial health complex and the external dependence of Brazil in this area require a diagnosis of this sector. For this, a survey was conducted, whose methodology consisted of applying diagnostic questionnaire with subsequent technical visit. They identified 36 companies, of which 30 were visited. The results showed a concentrated pharmochemical sector in the Southeast, predominantly national capital, with less than half of the companies operating only as pharmochemical. The workforce is approximately two thousand people with high expertise. More than half of companies have national Good Manufacturing Practices certification, and some have international certifications. The production of pharmaceuticals is 0.8% of the imported volume, but is encouraged by the partnerships for productive development. A SWOT matrix for the segment and a classification of companies according to the level of technological capabilities were developed, identifying weaknesses and recommending the direction of public policies for the production of strategic drugs.Downloads
