This paper discusses the possibilities and potentialities of new technologies of communication, considering characteristics of these technologies, processes of mediatisation and models of communication. The advent of internet has favored the interaction, modifying the relationship between media and society. However, its use according to the diffusionist model may limit its potential. In order to illustrate the theoretical analysis and discussing new roles played by journalism and society in production of content and the impact produced by them on the field of communication and health, an event involving the media coverage of a tumultuous consultation schedule in a health centre which attends to SUS (Unified Health System) patients is presented here.Downloads
