The 20th century is marked by the manifestation of a new way of perceiving the human body. The consolidation of Molecular and Cellular Biology allowed the individual to investigate microscopic particularities of the structures that form the human organism, producing a great improvement in the creation of new therapeutic practices, such as researches about stem cells manipulation. However, these innovating technologies in the field of Health are accompanied by ethical and moral questionings, for their investigative practices favor the polemic around the juridical status of the human embryo. Regarding these aspects, the objective of this article is to analyze how the debate about the use of embryonic stem cells was conducted in Brazil between 2007 and 2008, by the interposition of the Direct Action of Unconstitutionality to the Federal Supreme Court.Downloads
