This essay intends to discuss how the Graduate Program in Communication and Information in Health (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação e Informação em Saúde - PPGICS), offered by the ICICT/Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, problematizes, configures, and integrates the concept of mediation, particularly when associated with communication in public health, as represented by the Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS). After an introduction to the program’s mission, the essay discusses the similarities and differences of Communication and Health in the SUS and, developing the idea of mediation as semiosis and alterity, discusses concepts that guide the understanding of mediation according to several authors. Finally, the essay specifically addresses the way in which the program seeks to develop the concept of mediation, offering some examples of its use in research projects and academic disciplines.Downloads
