In this paper, we made a qualitative analysis of content aiming to understand audiovisual campaigns use to prevent dengue, Zika and chikungunya through the perspective of public, risk and health communications. After examining 30 films produced and published on Youtube by Brazilian Ministry of Health, we perceived they had followed the emergence of arboviruses cases, but left information gaps, repeated problems of social contexts inadequacy and remained focused on ‘Aedes aegypti combat’. The appeal of the videos became sensationalist when addressing people’s pains and losses. It perpetuated, even veiled, the hegemonic vision centered on the doctor. Ministry did not interact with users, indicating that its Youtube channel was a mere repository of content produced. Media campaigns are strategic for communication at risk, but should not be its main strategy, since it requires an integrated and participatory work in public, risk and health communications.
